Romans 6:1–4 (KJV)
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
In my last post, I wrote about resting in the completed work of Christ — that our salvation is not earned by works, nor is it kept by our effort. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by striving to keep rules or rituals.
Some might ask, “If salvation is all by grace, does that mean we shouldn’t worry about doing good works?”
Absolutely not! As Paul said, “God forbid.”
Good works are not the root of salvation — they are the fruit of salvation. They are the outward evidence of the inward change Christ brings. When we rest in Him, we are freed from the heavy yoke of legalism and invited to walk in newness of life — not by our strength, but by His.
Rules and standards can never change a heart, but walking with Christ will. As we walk with Him, He works in us and through us, producing a life that reflects His grace and glory.
Let’s not live by a checklist of religion, but by the power of a risen Savior.
Let’s walk in newness of life — resting, trusting, and obeying Him daily.
